The name of this park is derived from the name of a river called Manas, which in turn got its name from the serpent God Manasa. This park was named as national sanctuary in India in the year 1928. but, the park was reformed when it was made a tiger reserve. The total land occupied by Manas National Park is about 391 sq.km.
