The land along the cost is the long strip of volcanic mountains called Eastern Ghats and at the bottom is the mighty Indian Ocean. The Easter cost of India also has mountains called the Eastern Ghats. The bottom part of the Indian peninsular is a fertile basin formed by major rivers like Godavari, Krishna, Tungabhadra and Kaveri.

The central part of the Indian peninsular is called the Deccan Plateau. The Deccan Plateau constitutes the whole of the south Indian tableland or the elevated region lying east of the Western Ghats. East of the plateau and the river plains are the Sundarbans, the largest single block of tidal mangrove forest in the world. The far eastern part of the country is full of rain forest and also is home to the places with highest precipitation in the world. The states are also called "Scotland of the East" because of the similarity of landscape.

There are two islands which form the part of India, one on the east side of the peninsular called the Andaman and Nicobar and one on the west side of the peninsular called the Lakshadweep.

Apart from the geographical diversity, the country is also one of the most diversified countries in the world with over 30 different spoken languages having 2000 dialects is an enormous count. The main religions followed in India are Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, Christianity, Zoroastrianism and Judaism.
